Myth Busting
"You need to be an IT professional to migrate" — where that idea comes from, and why it is wrong
A handful of occupations get talked about constantly, which creates the impression they are the only ones that work. The occupation lists say otherwise.
Ask people what occupations migrate successfully to Australia and most will name the same handful — software, engineering, accounting. It is an understandable impression, formed from repetition rather than from the occupation lists themselves.
What the lists actually contain
The relevant occupation lists span trades, healthcare, education, construction management, agriculture and many other fields well beyond technology. Whether a particular occupation has a workable pathway depends on its specific listing, its assessing authority's requirements and current demand settings — not on how often it comes up in conversation.
Why the myth persists
Popular occupations generate more content, more social proof and more anecdotal success stories, which reinforces the impression that they are the only route. Meanwhile, people in less-discussed occupations often assume, incorrectly, that migration is not available to them and never check.
What we tell people instead
We look at your actual occupation against the current lists and assessing requirements, rather than against what tends to get talked about. Frequently the honest answer is that a pathway exists and simply is not well known.
Every case is different. Your advice should be too.
