Human Stories
Two people, one household, and a decision about whose case leads
A composite account of how household structure changes a skilled migration strategy — and why the obvious choice is not always the right one.
A couple came to us with a settled assumption: he would be the primary applicant because he earned more and had the longer career.
What the assessment showed
His occupation sat on a list with heavy competition and a skills assessment that would take months. Hers was less competitive, her qualification matched more cleanly, and her English result was stronger. On the structural facts, her case was the better vehicle for the household.
The conversation
That is not a comfortable conversation. It touches identity, not just paperwork. What made it workable was showing the reasoning: the requirements, the timing, and what each option would realistically demand of them.
Where it went
They proceeded with her as primary applicant. We are not going to tell you it was approved, because that is not the point of this piece and outcomes are not ours to promise. The point is that a household made a deliberate decision with the facts in front of them instead of a default one.
Every migration case deserves a strategy.
